Pattern Shop Licensing Terms

Thank you for purchasing a design from the Johanna V. Creative Pattern Shop.

These licensing terms apply specifically to seamless patterns purchased individually through the Pattern Shop at Johanna V. Creative. Pattern Archive downloads are subject to separate membership licensing terms.

By purchasing, downloading, or using a Pattern Shop design, you agree to the following terms.

Your Pattern Shop License

Each individual Pattern Shop purchase includes a limited commercial license allowing you to use the purchased design on up to 500 physical end products for sale.

Your license is attached to the individual pattern you purchased and does not require an active membership to remain valid.

Once you have purchased a Pattern Shop design, you may continue using that design under these terms.

Personal Use

You may use your purchased pattern for unlimited personal projects that are not being sold, distributed, or used commercially.

Examples include:

Personal sewing and craft projects
Home décor
Scrapbooking and journaling
Gifts for friends and family
Personal stationery
Other non-commercial creative projects

Commercial Use

You may use each purchased pattern to create up to 500 physical end products for sale.

The 500-product limit applies to the total number of physical products produced using that individual design, rather than 500 units per product type.

For example, if you use one purchased pattern to create 200 notebooks, 150 tote bags, and 150 zipper pouches, you have reached the 500-unit commercial-use limit for that design.

Permitted physical end products may include:

Apparel
Bags and accessories
Stationery
Journals and notebooks
Fabric goods
Home décor
Packaging
Stickers
Gift wrap
Handmade products
Other finished physical goods

The pattern must be incorporated into a finished product and may not be sold or distributed as a standalone design or creative asset.

Small-Business Production

This license is intended for independent creatives, makers, and small businesses producing their own finished products.

You may work with a manufacturer or production partner to produce your products on your behalf, provided the pattern files are supplied only as necessary for manufacturing your authorized products.

Your manufacturer or production partner does not receive ownership of or a separate license to use the design.

They may not retain, reuse, sell, distribute, or apply the pattern to products for themselves or other customers.

You are responsible for ensuring that any production partner handling the files respects these licensing terms.

Print-on-Demand

Pattern Shop designs may be used with a print-on-demand provider when the provider is acting solely as a production and fulfillment partner for products sold through your own storefront or business.

For example, you may use an approved production service to manufacture and fulfill products sold through your own website.

However, Pattern Shop designs may not be uploaded to open print-on-demand marketplaces or design marketplaces where the artwork becomes available through the marketplace's catalog.

Prohibited marketplaces include, but are not limited to:

Spoonflower
Redbubble
Society6
Zazzle
Creative Market
Design Bundles
Creative Fabrica
Similar marketplaces, libraries, or platforms

Uploading a Johanna V. Creative pattern to one of these platforms is prohibited even if you intend to sell the pattern only as part of a finished product.

Digital Products

Pattern Shop designs may not be resold, redistributed, shared, sublicensed, or made available as digital creative assets.

You may not use a purchased pattern to create or sell:

Digital paper packs
Seamless pattern collections
Pattern files
Clipart or design-resource packs
Digital scrapbooking kits containing the pattern
Templates in which the original pattern can be extracted
Downloadable files that provide access to the original artwork
Other digital products that redistribute the design itself

Purchasing a pattern gives you permission to use the artwork, not permission to redistribute the artwork.

Modification

You may make reasonable adjustments necessary to incorporate the pattern into your finished products, such as resizing the repeat or positioning the design within your product.

However, modifying a Johanna V. Creative pattern does not create a new design or transfer ownership of the underlying artwork to you.

You may not modify, recolor, trace, redraw, manipulate, or otherwise alter a pattern for the purpose of reselling, redistributing, sublicensing, or claiming the modified artwork as your own.

Sharing & Redistribution

Pattern files are licensed to the original purchaser only.

You may not:

Share purchased files with another person or business
Give the files to friends, customers, or other creators
Resell the original files
Redistribute the files for free
Upload the files to shared asset libraries
Include the files in bundles or resource collections
Sublicense the artwork
Transfer your license to another person or business

If another business or creator wants to use the pattern, they must purchase their own license.

AI, Machine Learning & Dataset Use

Johanna V. Creative artwork may not be used for artificial intelligence or machine-learning purposes.

You may not upload, submit, or otherwise provide the artwork to:

AI training datasets
Machine-learning datasets
Generative AI systems for training or fine-tuning
Style-learning systems
Image-generation reference libraries
Asset-recognition or design-generation datasets
Any system intended to reproduce, imitate, learn from, or generate new artwork based on the original design

This restriction applies to both the original pattern and modified versions of the artwork.

Copyright & Ownership

Purchasing a pattern does not transfer copyright or ownership of the artwork.

All artwork and seamless pattern designs remain the intellectual property of Johanna V. Creative.

Your purchase grants you a license to use the design according to these terms.

You may not claim the original artwork as your own, register the artwork as your own intellectual property, or represent yourself as the creator of the pattern.

Trademark Use

Patterns may be incorporated into your finished products and branding materials where appropriate, but the artwork itself may not be registered as a trademark, logo, or other exclusive brand identifier.

Your license is non-exclusive, which means the same pattern may be licensed to other Johanna V. Creative customers.

The 500-Product Limit

Each Pattern Shop purchase permits production of up to 500 physical end products using that individual design.

If you wish to produce more than 500 physical products using a design, please contact Johanna V. Creative regarding extended licensing options before exceeding the limit.

Alternatively, eligible designs may be available through the Pattern Archive under its separate membership licensing terms.

Pattern Shop vs. Pattern Archive Licensing

The Pattern Shop and Pattern Archive operate under separate licenses.

Pattern Shop purchases include a license for up to 500 physical end products. Your license for that purchased design remains valid after purchase and does not depend on an active Pattern Archive membership.

Pattern Archive downloads are governed by the Pattern Archive licensing terms and membership requirements.

Purchasing a Pattern Shop design does not provide access to the Pattern Archive, and Pattern Archive membership does not convert previous Pattern Shop purchases into Archive-licensed downloads.

Always refer to the license associated with the way you obtained the design.

Refunds & Digital Products

Because Pattern Shop products are digital files delivered electronically, purchases are generally non-refundable once the files have been accessed or downloaded, except where otherwise required by applicable law.

Please review the product description, file specifications, and licensing terms carefully before purchasing.

Agreement to These Terms

By purchasing, downloading, or using a Johanna V. Creative Pattern Shop design, you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to these licensing terms.

Johanna V. Creative reserves the right to update these terms as the Pattern Shop evolves. The license applicable to an individual purchase is governed by the terms provided at the time of purchase, except where changes are required by law.
