The Fire Within

You may see something dark,

     you may see something twisted,

     you may see something frightening.

But what I see is Resilience.

     I see a fierce soul that continues to stand through attacks

          and ripped flesh.

     I see what would shatter the heart of most, stand tall.

For its survival is an internal fire.

     It may never dwindle.

     The strength that continuously ignites it soul

          acts as an eternal flame.

What may appear broken, beaten, helpless 

     on the surface,

     Stands united on its own, 

          for its fierce heart and strengthened bones

          is what truly makes it powerful.
